Katja Herbers was born in Germany to Vera Beths, a violinist and Werner Herbers, an oboist. In her early years, she traveled with her mother in America for a tour with the chamber ensemble L'Archibudelli. Her father and mother both were married, and her mother was to Cellist Anner bylsma.
