Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. But for a person from Irish origin, and surrounded by gifted parents and a loving family, they had innate talents. Maureen arrived in this nurturing haven, August 17, 1920. Her family was her parents and family members. Marguerita FitzSimons was a talented contralto. Charles FitzSimons owned the Shamrock Rovers soccer club in Ireland and ran a Dublin business. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was an athlete at heart and enjoyed playing tough sporting games. The passion for sports was matched by the natural ability to perform. Her winning of almost all the Feis Awards for her home country's drama and theatre performances proved the fact that she was a natural performer. In her 14th year she enrolled in the Abbey Theater to follow her dream and study operatic and classical vocals.
